Bibliotherapy is a creative arts practice that uses literature as a discursive medium for experiential resonance and exposure, self-revelation, psychoemotional relief, and narrowed gaps between solitude and solidarity. Complimentary to talk and somatic therapies, bibliotherapy leverages the bounded thresholds and rich contents of multi-genre texts for the distanced identification, discovery, processing, and deconstruction of lived realities; sparking present mindedness, deepened experiential awareness, critical thought and relational connection. This approach is adaptive, participatory, self-paced, and nonpathologizing, but is not a substitute for medical treatment and therapeutic monitoring. Of note, Cocoon and Danyelle neither receives nor accepts sponsorship and compensation for literature recommendations. Cocoon currently offers bibliotherapy in individual, group, and virtual formats.

Narrative therapy is a conversational care approach that distinguishes people from problems and situates personal histories, conditions, and dilemmas in sociocultural contexts for integrated understandings of self and self-authored interpretations of the complexities of lived experience. Accommodating the uniqueness of personal experience, narrative frameworks center people as experts of their lives, holds space for contradiction without rushing toward predictive strategies or techniques, and nurtures care processes that unfold at a pace respectful of lived experience rather than insight alone for generative, fulfilling, and harmonious relationship with oneself, family, communities, and natural environment.
In our narrative practice, we privilege care participants' innate knowledges and capabilities as couriers for disentangling the relational influences of social, cultural, political, religious, and economic norms to access the depths and competencies of lived experiences for strengthened articulation, recovered intuitive resources, enhanced personal agency, and attunement to values-informed lifestyles. This care approach is non-pathologizing, participant driven, dynamic, collaborative, humanizing, and subtle. Cocoon currently offers narrative therapy in individual, group, and virtual formats.

Somatosensory therapy is a body oriented & integrative practice that harnesses bodily functions for reality orientation, somatic stabilization, and/or restored relationship with the body. Unlike traditional talk therapies, somatosensory work resources the body’s sensations, movements, & energies as entry, modulatory, and discharge points of therapeutic care in the deepened recovery, processing, and/or relief of challenging experiences both past and present.
Experiencing somatosensory therapy is highly personal, but potential expressions of engagement in this approach could look like: increased grounding/presence, sensorial discomfort, incremental relief and relaxation, spontaneous physical movements, shifts in respiratory/heart rate patterns, heightened sense of safety and control, and emotional expression. This care approach is largely participatory, non-demand, self paced, and sensitive to participants’ expressive needs. Cocoon currently offers somatic therapy in individual, group, and virtual formats.

Careworker Respite is a niche, gratuitous therapeutic model crafted exclusively for helping professionals across healthcare and academic domains such as Social Workers, Case Managers, Nurses, Nursing Assistants, and Teachers. Curated as a restorative response to the health implications of careworkers’ exposure to inequitable workplace demands of productivity, efficiency, and endurance; these gatherings provide closed forums that tend to the needs of the person without the performance of the professional through presence, solidarity, grounding, authenticity, connection, and reflection.
Cocoon hosts Careworker Respite gatherings in-person with limited seating to encourage vulnerability, meaningful guidance, and preserve the fidelity, privacy, and intimacy of the therapeutic space. These gatherings are structured similarly to group therapy-observing the professional standards and legal obligations of group practice-but differ in process with enhanced sensitivity to confidentiality, intra-group facilitator rotations, flexible scheduling, non-demand participation, and meticulous participant selections. Of note, Practitioner Respite carries the therapeutic risks of group practice, such as breach of confidentiality, and is subject to Cocoon’s practice policies.

The frequency of visits can vary depending on your individual needs and desires. At Cocoon, we aim to provide quality and comprehensive care, and prioritize participants’ experiential needs as the compass for variations in service frequencies. When joining our practice, participants often experience an “acquaintance period” that consists of a higher frequency of sessions for connection building and wellness guide development. As tenure in care lengthens, service frequencies will adjust to align with your care needs in collaboration with your practitioner. Please bear in mind as we expand to accept insurance service, limits may arise impacting service frequencies. Should you encounter this dilemma, rest assured that we will advocate for you and collaborate to develop workarounds to secure the services to which you are entitled.
